REVIEW: Un Poyo Rojo Dances to its Own Beat at Centaur

Un Poyo Rojo is a bold and lively show full of scenes of humour, drama, and sexual tension. It is kinetic, vibrant, and wonderfully human in the dance of attraction. Using a variety of theatrical techniques and no spoken dialogue, Un Poyo Rojo is body theatre that surprises and entertains.

The show is set on a (mostly) bare stage with some props indicating a gym locker room. Two men (Luciano Rosso and Nicolás Poggi), notice each other and begin to interact using multiple dance styles, from modern to historical. They perform a dance of attention, curiosity, antagonism, competition, and attraction. It is playful and sexy. There are many moments of comedy and intense physical acrobatics. There are also slower moments as the characters pause and reflect, revealing even more facets of their personalities.

Mr. Rosso and Mr. Poggi are fantastic dancers! However, their talents do not stop there. They use mime to show the unique qualities of their characters. No muscle is unused- even their eyes add to the story. They also use improv with a live radio- this scene is great fun and adds to the unpredictability of the drama. Mr. Rosso and Mr. Poggi create an exciting and high-spirited world within a small story. In this world actions do speak louder than words.

Bravo Un Poyo Rojo!!
