Snow (Hey Oh) was a good audience singalong. The crowd gave a great reaction to Dark Necessities from the latest album, The Getaway. A surprise song was The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie. Flea made a quick speech about bringing the funk forward and remembering the first time he heard funk because it made him so happy. The band funked into the Prince inspired Go Robot with an additional unnamed bass player. Additionally they had a percussionist all night playing beside Smith who also went unnamed.

The light show was a show in itself. There were four screens behind the band but it was the lights in front that was one of the most unique I’ve seen in a long time. There was a what can be best described as a wave of candle lights that moved in unison looking at times like a flying carpet, twist and turned or moved up and down individually and changed colours. This wave of candles was spread far along most of the heads of those on the floor.

While Kieidis dances or stomps around with his his microphone on the stand it’s Flea that showed he’s the real leader of the band as he constantly bopped or jumped around the stage thumping away on his bass all night even doing a handstand walk. Klinghoffer who’s playing has escalated his completion as a full fledged member was lunging and squatting around. Smith was very impressed at the cheering in the encore and even said how we’re a better audience than than when they’ll play for Toronto the next night. Although they’re really going to be in Hamilton.

It was a bit of s surprise setlist with their cover of Jimi Hendrix, Fire or Don’t Forget Me. They omitted most likely three of their big hits Dani California, Scar Tissue and Under The Bridge while playing a lesser hit like Tell Me Baby. The encore was the excellent latest single Goodbye Angel and of course a high energy Give It Away.

Original RHCP drummer Jack Irons opened the night playing drums along to tracks. At one point current member Josh Klinghoffer came out to sing a cover of Pink Floyd’s Shine On You Crazy Diamond. It was a neat mix of original and newest members in the world’s best funk n rock band.
